Sunnfjordruta has become a phenomenon, and the tour will be organized with professional guides, accommodation, and food along the way.
Where does Sunnfjordruta start?
The tour starts from Jølstraholmen Camping & Hytter, which is located at Vassenden just outside Førde.
Practical information about the trip
As the trip involves several long days in the mountains, good physical fitness and skiing experience are required. It is also worth mentioning that weather, wind, and avalanche risk can lead to changes in the route. This is continuously assessed by experienced guides, who are also on the tour from start to finish. During the trip, you will spend most of the time with skis on your feet, but there may also be some walking with the skis attached to the backpack. The walking will be in the form of transport stages. *Transport along the route is not included
Minimum number of participants for the trip
The trip will be completed if there are a minimum of four participants.
Tour description Sunnfjordruta
Arrival day - Jølstraholmen
The first day is spent getting to know each other, eating supper together, and having a chat about the trip. Together with the guide, you will look at the map, plan the route, pack their rucksacks, and prepare their equipment before crawling into bed.
Day 1, stage Dvergsdalen - Salsegga - Sægrov - Kjøsnesfjorden
Approx. 9 km on skis with 800 hm ascent
Start at Dvergsdalsdalen. Here you will cross Salsegga and have a nice descent down to Kjøsnesfjorden. The view at the top is outstanding, with high mountains and deep fjords everywhere you look. There is also time for a slightly longer lunch if the weather permits.
Day 2, stage Skei - Storaksla - Bjørga - Befringsdalen - Stardalen
Approx. 22 km on skis with 1300 hm ascent
From Skei, you have to walk up a gravel road to the snow line, where the ascent to Storaksla starts. This is a long day with a good pace. At the same time, the terrain is exciting with lots of variety, and of course a fantastic view up on Bjørga, with views of both Jostedalsbreen, Myklebustbreen, and Grovabreen.
Day 3, stage Stardalen - Veiteberg - Snønipa - Haugadalen - Stardalen
Approx. 22 km on skis with 1500 hm ascent
Today's destination is Sunnfjord's jewel and highest peak, Snønipa. The trip is long and partly over the glacier. Equipment for traveling on glaciers is provided. Once you are back down again, you will be transported back to Jølstraholmen, and then return home.
