Day-Trip cabin Fagnabu in Kvinnherad municipality

The day-trip cabin Fagnabu in Kvinnherad is relatively new but has already become a popular hiking destination, both in summer and winter.

That’s no surprise, considering its beautiful surroundings, easy access, and well-designed cabin. The road to Fjellhaugen and the parking area is good, the terrain is easy to walk, and the view is stunning. Here, you can hike through scenic mountain landscapes, cross small streams, and walk over boardwalks across marshy areas. If you visit during the warmer months, you might even find a natural pool in the river for a refreshing swim. If that doesn’t tempt you, you can always dip your toes in Nautavatnet.

Getting there

To reach the starting point for the trail to Fagnabu, drive towards Fjellhaugen Ski Center. If you are coming from the south via Husnes, take the turn up Omvikdalen, follow the signs to Matre, and then turn towards Fjellhaugen Ski Center and Blådalen. If you are coming from the north via Rosendal, follow the same route towards Fjellhaugen Ski Center. From the main road to the parking area, the drive takes about 15 minutes.

There is no public transportation to this location.

Park in the lower parking lot. On sunny days, especially during winter and Easter holidays, it can get busy, but parking is usually available.

Note: In summer and early autumn, livestock graze in the area. Dogs must be kept on a leash.

The route to Fagnabu

From the parking lot, walk a few hundred meters along a gravel road, passing a cabin area above the parking lot. Soon, you’ll reach a bend in the road, where you leave the gravel road and follow the marked trail towards Nautavatnet. The route continues on a path and partly overgrown tractor road until you reach a fork.

  • The winter route crosses a bridge to the right.
  • The summer route goes left—follow the summer route signs.

The trail leads across boardwalks over marshy areas and along a well-marked and relatively easy path. Soon, you’ll see the distinct design of Fagnabu on a small hill. Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of Nautavatnet and the surrounding landscape.

The cabin

Some days, you might meet other hikers here, but just as often, it’s peaceful and quiet. Enjoy your coffee or packed lunch inside or outside the cabin.

On the cabin wall, you’ll find information about what is and isn’t allowed. Please remember to leave the cabin and surrounding area as you would like to find it.

The cabin is equipped with a toilet, wood stove, and electricity.
