About the Tour

Join us for a guided tour through the beautiful village of Tau, where the focus will be on the power of the river and how it shaped the existence of the local community.

We will visit the mill houses and the mill itself, highlighting the salmon fishing connected to the river that flows through Tau’s picturesque landscape down to the sea. The tour will also explore the sawmill near the river, and we will eventually enter the enchanting Møllehagen, the former director’s residence. Here, we will delve into the history of milling operations and activities surrounding the villa, including bread baking and beer brewing associated with the estate.

The tour will shed light on Tau’s role as a transportation hub and its connection to fjord boats.

We will also explore Tau’s development and settlement, beginning with the Stone Age, its spectacular Viking graves, and the farming community that, powered by the river, cultivated Tau into a village rich in historical and cultural heritage.

The tour begins at Tau Mølle, with parking available near the quay by the mill.
