Urådalen and Bjødnalia

This protected area is located at Sæland in Øvre Time, just east of Taksdalsvatnet lake. Experience many aspects of the natural and cultural landscape in the inner parts of the Jæren community. The path goes from the parking lot through a forest and across a stream. Then you enter the Sæland nature reserve where an information board tells about plants and animals in the reserve and about the protection rules. A fasilitated walking path goes south along Taksdalsvatnet lake and bends to the east along the north side of Uråna stream. The trail was made during the First World War to take out firewood. A memorial plaque is mounted on the rock wall some distance into the valley to commemorate this. The trail goes under crooked and windswept oaks, some are really old, crooked giants. The path continues into the valley which opens inwards towards Engjavatnet lake. The former farm Bjødnalia lies here, in a varied cultural landscape. Fine stone fences and house walls stand proud to remember Fanuel Eidland and his family by, who lived here around 1850. The house was large according to the standards of that time, and the barn had room for ten cows. Two wives and many children died here, so life was probably hard. From Bjødnalia, you can do the return trip on an agricultural road along the north side of Engjavatnet lake, over the hill northeast to Kleiva, and from there back to Sæland. If you return down the valley Urådalen, you can head north up towards the mountain Blåfjellet. Here there are still some heather moors left, and you get an impressive view of Jæren.
