Vibrandsøy is located just outside the centre of Haugesund, and to get there you need to take the Røværbåten boat service, or have access to your own boat. This boat service departs from Indre kai quay, and the crossing takes 5 minutes. If you come by car, you must park in one of the parking facilities in the centre of Haugesund.
When you arrive on Vibrandsøy, follow the gravel road north from the quay through the old cluster of farm buildings, and on a path across a grazing area. Crossing the bridge takes you to Varøy, where the hill up to the cabin can be a bit steep. The path on Vibrandsøy is not universally designed but may be possible for strollers. It is not recommended for wheelchairs and wheeled walking frames. The walk itself takes about 20 minutes one way.
Varøy is open all year, but as for the other day-trip cabins, spending the night here is not permitted. The cabin is self-service, and you can light a fire in its wood-burning stove with the free firewood provided. The walk is suitable for all age groups. There is a public toilet on Vibrandsøy, which is operated by Friluftsrådet Vest. The toilet is located along the path on the way out to Varøy, there is no toilet at the day-trip cabin itself.
