The Vinnu stairs are being built to provide easy access to nature experiences and refreshing encounters like waterfall spray and mountain views. Just a few kilometers from the center of Sunndalsøra, you can visit Vinnu – a popular photo spot when the waterfall is at its biggest early in summer.

This is where the Vinnu stairs starts

The Vinnu stairs leading up to the waterfall are located about 6 km from Sunndalsøra at the Holsskeiet rest area along RV70. Find your way by following the marked trail from Holsskeiet. The hike takes 30-40 minutes to the top from the parking area.

The world's longest sherpa stairs?

The first part of the Vinnu stairs opened in the fall of 2022, and it quickly became a popular hiking destination. The goal is for the stairs to lead straight up to the summit of 840 m.a.s.l. and the free fall of Vionnufossen. If successful, and the stairs are built correctly, then Sunndal will be the proud provider of the world's longest sherpa stairs. Even now, upon the completion of its initial phase, the staircase offers breathtaking views of the waterfall, mountains, and valley. The staircase itself is an incredible feat of architectural excellence.

Sunndal is known for its beatiful waterfalls and nature adventures

You can experience two of Europe's highest waterfalls in Sunndal. In addition to Vinnufossen, you can find your way to Skorga, which is Europe's second highest waterfall at 864 meters. Skorga is a bit more hidden, around 2 km from Vinnu.

Once you're in the land of waterfalls, it's worth stopping by Åmotan – a unique natural phenomenon in Norway. It's not without reason that Åmotan is called "The Niagara of the North". Here, six rivers combine their roaring waterfalls.
