The cabin was rebuilt in 2019 after been taken down by a storm in 2011. The architect firm Snøhetta designed the building which is built in solid wood. The “tun” consists of 5 buildings. A common area, a dormitory housing 21, two cabins that sleeps 14 and 4, and a service building for toilets and showers.

The stay includes breakfast, a self-made lunch pack and dinner. Tungestølen also serves lunch from mid-June to end of September. It is possible to drive all the way to the cabin.

From the sun wall at Tungestølen you can enjoy the majestic view into Langedalen with the massive glacier fall at the very innermost part. In Austerdalen, the glacier falls Loke, Tor and Odin are a fantastic sight.

British mountain pioneer William Cecil Slingsby discovered the area in 1894 and called these glacier falls "The finest ice scenery in Europe".
