The Viking Farm at Avaldsnes
A Viking farm reconstructed based on archaeological finds, where you can get an insight into how the Vikings lived and worked. The Viking Farm is located on Bukkøy island, a 15-minute walk from Nordvegen History Centre. It’s open during the summer and offers guided tours. If you visit Avaldsnes at another time of year, we would still recommend a walk around Bukkøy.
Karmsundet – the sound that gave Norway its name
On your way to Haugesund you will pass over Karmsund bridge. The bridge crosses Karmsundet sound, also known as Nordvegen – the north way – from where Norway gets its name.

Haraldshaugen – Norway’s only national monument
Just north of the centre of Haugesund is Norway's only national monument: Haraldshaugen. According to the saga, this is where King Harald Fairhair is buried. The monument is beautifully situated on the Coastal Trail.
