Mardalsfossen
The water thunders down the Mardalsfossen waterfall with a free fall of as much as 297 metres. It can be reached in less than a two hours' drive from Molde towards Eikesdalen. You must take the rest of the trip on foot, on a well-marked path. If you dare to walk the last few metres to the waterfall, pack rain gear or a change of clothes, because you will surely get wet! Mardalsfossen is open from 20 June to 20 August each year.
Nesset Parsonage
On your way back to Molde, you will pass Nesset Parsonage, the childhood home of the writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. Bjørnson was a Norwegian poet, Nobel laureate in literature and politician. Among others, he wrote the Norwegian national anthem "Ja, vi elsker dette lands" (Yes, we love this country). In his story Blakken, Bjørnson described the farm himself: "One of the most beautiful farms in the country, as it lies wide-open between two fjords with green mountains above them, waterfalls and farms on the opposite shore, rolling fields and life in the valley and along the fjord mountains, with headland after headland jutting out into the sea and a large farm on each of them."
Hike to Prestaksla
If you have time and more energy in your legs, a hike up the Sherpa stairs at Prestaksla is recommended. The walk starts just above Nesset Parsonage and offers fantastic views of fjords and mountains.
