If the weather is clear, you can see the two fishing villages of Bud and Bjørnsund in the far distance. The hike is truly spectacular on a warm summer´s evening, when the sun is setting in the ocean!

Tour description

The trailhead can be found next to the parking lot in Årgårdsvika. Follow the gravel path towards the sea and make a left at the first intersection. The trail will make a right turn down by the sea and winds its way through coastal heather before revealing the beautiful Sandvika beach. The trail continues onwards for approximately another kilometer, before reaching Komedantholmen. Rest and eat your packed lunch on one of the benches along the trail or go for a swim at Sandvika beach!

Rindarøya and Roktamonumentet

Extend the coastal hike with a visit to Rindarøya, only a short drive from the parking lot i Årgårdsvika. In 1961, a breakwater was added to connect Rindarøya to Gossen. Houses are lined up close to each other on the island, strategically making the most of any natural shelter that can serve as protection against the sometimes-rough weather conditions. The same merciless weather led to one of the most dramatic shipwrecks along the coastline, when the cargo ship “Rokta” got caught in a storm in 1938. Today you can follow a coastal trail to “Roktamonumentet”; a homage to those who lost their lives in the tragic happening. The small island has also served as a fish reception since 1963, and is today home to the recognized supplier of seafood; Vikenco AS.

How to get to Ågardsvika

Follow the main road from Aukra ferry port to the centre of Gossen; Falkhytten, and make a left turn following the signs to Rindarøya. Make a right in a sharp left-turn after driving for approximately 8 minutes and park your car in Årgårdsvika parking lot. The trailhead is located 200m from the parking lot.
