The Visitor Centre in Hyllestad is connected to the Millstone Park and is located in the old vicarage in Hyllestad town centre, next to the SPAR shop. Here, you can dive deeper into Viking history and the legacy of millstone craft.

The main theme of the Hyllestad Episenter is to showcase the history of millstone production and Viking heritage. Both indoor and outdoor exhibitions with interactive elements are planned.

Hyllestad is known for its extensive millstone production, a tradition believed to have continued for more than a thousand years.

Millstone Park in Hyllestad is a fascinating visitor centre for this rare story. A model involving schoolchildren in the storytelling of geology and millstone production – known as the “Hyllestad Model” – has been developed. Don’t miss the impressive demonstration of the ancient tradition of limestone burning.

Shipbuilding, agriculture, and coastal fishing have traditionally been the main industries in the municipality, which has around 1,300 inhabitants.

The spectacular Lihesten mountain is a famous coastal landmark and is likely one of the most photographed peaks in the region.

For those who love the outdoors, Hyllestad has much to offer. The landscape is hilly and diverse, with many mountain peaks ranging from 500 to 700 metres in height. The tallest is Risnesnipa, rising 777 metres above sea level, located between Åfjorden and Lifjorden. It is part of the Lihesten massif, known for its steep cliffs on nearly all sides.
