Amanda – the statue at Festiviteten

The Amanda Award is held annually at Festiviteten concert hall in Haugesund. The red carpet is rolled out and the whole town gets ready for a party! And the winner is…..? This is Norway's answer to the Oscars. The statue that stands outside Festiviteten is just like the statuette awarded to the winner. The Amanda statue was designed by the sculptor Kristian Kvakland and was unveiled by none other than Liv Ullmann. The award statuette is made in Haugesund by Olaussen Metall.

Marilyn Monroe – a touch of Hollywood in Haugesund

You’ll find a piece of Hollywood on Indre Kai quay, just outside Quality Hotel Maritim, where the one and only Marilyn Monroe sits and gazes across the strait. Why is there a statue of Marilyn Monroe in Haugesund, you may wonder? The father of Marilyn, otherwise known as Norma Jeane Mortenson, came from Haugesund.

Famous Norwegian actors on the Walk of Fame in Haraldsgata

You don't need to go to all the way to Hollywood to experience a Walk of Fame. Haugesund has its very own Walk of Fame in Haraldsgata, where new stones are unveiled each year during the film festival. Recognise any of the lucky Norwegian actors who have been honoured with their very own Amanda stone?
